The City is working with the Sanford/Springvale community to update our Comprehensive Plan. This plan provides long-range planning and policy direction for the next 10 years for Sanford. It guides City decisions about land use planning and major investments such as parks, utilities, roads, sidewalks, and other amenities. The content of the Plan is informed by residents through several community engagement opportunities, including ongoing online engagement on this website.

The Plan is carefully guided by the steering committee, which includes Sanford residents, employees, and board representatives who meet regularly to discuss the Plan.     Show us your Sanford! The City of Sanford is collecting photos from the community to include in our Comprehensive Plan. We would love to see your favorite places and moments in Sanford.

    September Community Open House

    Thank you for participating!

    The Future Land Use Plan is one of the most important components of the Comprehensive Plan. It establishes a long-term vision for how Sanford and Springvale should grow, evolve, and be conserved over the next decade. The plan helps answer questions such as:

    • Where should new housing be encouraged?
    • Where should new businesses and jobs locate?
    • Which areas are best suited for reinvestment and redevelopment?
    • What natural resources, agricultural lands, and open spaces should be protected?
    • How can growth occur in a way that strengthens community character and quality of life?

    The results will be used alongside technical analysis, demographic trends, housing and economic data, environmental considerations, and stakeholder input to develop the Future Land Use Plan and Future Land Use Map.
