Comprehensive Plan

The City is working with the Sanford/Springvale community to update our Comprehensive Plan. This plan provides long-range planning and policy direction for the next 20 years for Sanford. It guides City decisions about land use planning and major investments such as parks, utilities, roads, sidewalks, and other amenities. The content of the Plan is informed by residents through several community engagement opportunities, including ongoing online engagement on this website.

The Plan is carefully guided by the steering committee, which includes Sanford residents, employees, and board representatives who meet regularly to discuss the Plan. Resident input is critical to the Comprehensive Plan process. Share a transformational idea below. Sign up for updates via the button in the right-hand column. It is aspirational and forward‑looking, painting a picture of what the community wants to be like 10–20 years from now. Rather than focusing on specific projects or existing conditions, the vision reflects core values and desired qualities, such as community form, quality of life, and how people live, work, and connect.
The vision statement reflects what the community values most and describes the kind of community we want to be in the future. It helps set the direction for goals, policies, and actions in the plan. The Questions of the Month activity will run through the spring and summer to gather input from our community on a broad range of topics.
